Practice Variety. Build the Career That Fits You.

If one of the things you love about veterinary medicine is that no two days have to look the same, Tidewater Veterinary Hospital may feel like home.

We’re looking for a mixed-animal veterinarian to join our team in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, with flexible full-time and part-time opportunities available. As one of Maryland’s established mixed-animal practices, Tidewater provides the opportunity to work across species while tailoring your caseload to your interests and continuing to develop the areas of medicine that matter most to you.

You’ll be surrounded by veterinarians and staff who support one another through both everyday appointments and challenging cases. Our associates point to collaboration, staff-to-doctor ratio, surgical and animal variety, autonomy, and updated in-house equipment as some of the strengths of working with Team Tidewater.

Our recently renovated and expanded facility is equipped with modern medical technology to help you obtain diagnostic information quickly, provide answers to clients, and make informed treatment recommendations.

Flexibility for a Sustainable Career

Veterinary medicine is demanding work. We want to make it rewarding and sustainable, too.

Your schedule offers flexibility and is managed with you rather than driven by pressure to prioritize volume over quality.

For veterinarians practicing large-animal medicine, Tidewater offers a lighter on-call schedule, with after-hours coverage shared among neighboring veterinary practices to support a better work-life balance.

Combined with the ability to tailor your caseload to your interests, that flexibility gives you room to build a career that can grow and change along with you.

Compensation & Benefits

Our ProSal compensation model starts with a generous base salary and provides additional earning potential without negative accrual.

Benefits include:

  • Retirement plan with profit sharing and a 3% Safe Harbor 401(k) employer contribution
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Long-term disability coverage
  • Professional liability coverage
  • Paid professional dues and license fees
  • Continuing education budget
  • Paid CE time
  • Paid holidays and time off
  • Generous employee pet benefits
  • Scrubs allowance
  • Relocation expense assistance
  • Sign-on bonus
  • Assistance identifying local housing options and resources for those relocating
  • A lighter on-call schedule for large-animal practitioners, supported by shared after-hours coverage with neighboring veterinary practices

And that’s not the whole list. We’re happy to discuss the details and how Tidewater can support both your professional goals and your life outside of veterinary medicine.

Who We’re Looking For

Our ideal candidate:

  • Holds a DVM or equivalent degree and is eligible for veterinary licensure in Maryland
  • Is committed to gaining experience, expanding their abilities, and mentoring others as they grow
  • Values lasting, mutually supportive relationships
  • Communicates clearly and kindly with clients and coworkers
  • Enjoys collaboration while also having professional autonomy
  • Wants to grow within a flexible, supportive, and evolving veterinary practice

Life in St. Mary’s County

Tidewater is located in scenic and historic St. Mary’s County, where life outside the hospital can include time on the Chesapeake Bay, rivers and beaches, or exploring nearby parks and trails.

The area combines an outdoor lifestyle and close-knit communities with convenient access to Washington, DC, Annapolis, and Virginia—making it possible to enjoy Southern Maryland life while staying connected to the wider region.

Come Grow With Team Tidewater

We’re looking for more than a résumé. We want to get to know the veterinarian behind it—and give you the chance to get to know us, too.

If you’re looking for variety, collaboration, flexibility, and the opportunity to shape the next chapter of your veterinary career, we’d be glad to start the conversation.
